Investing.com-- Huawei Technologies’ chip architecture remains one generation behind leading U.S. counterparts due to 2019-era export restrictions, but the company is deploying creative solutions to narrow the gap, CEO Ren Zhengfei told the People’s Daily on Tuesday.
Ren emphasized that Huawei is leveraging cluster computing, compound chip designs, and advanced mathematics to boost performance despite single-chip limitations.
Huawei reportedly invests around 180 billion yuan ($25 billion) annually in research and development.
The CEO also downplayed U.S. claims about Huawei’s capabilities, asserting they are overstated. Nonetheless, he noted ongoing efforts to promote the Ascend series of AI chips, which are marketed domestically and positioned as rivals to NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) in China.
Ren’s remarks, which were made as the U.S. and China continue trade and technology talks, signal Huawei’s determination to adapt to sanctions and remain competitive, even while acknowledging its ongoing technological disadvantage.
