Fed Governor Adriana Kugler to resign
Investing.com -- ITA Airways has approved a new five-year business plan that focuses on long-haul expansion, fleet modernization, and deeper integration with its shareholder Lufthansa, the Italian carrier announced Wednesday.
The 2026-2030 strategy aims to launch additional intercontinental routes from Rome to destinations across North America, South America, Asia, and Africa, with the goal of boosting tourism and trade connections.
ITA Airways, which is majority-owned by the Italian government with Lufthansa holding a 41% stake, plans to modernize its fleet by adding one new long-haul aircraft annually starting in 2026. By 2030, the airline targets operating approximately 100 next-generation jets.
The business plan also outlines increased integration with Lufthansa, including ITA’s planned entry into Star Alliance in 2026 and participation in joint ventures for transatlantic and Japanese routes.
"We are laying the groundwork to continue being Italy’s reference carrier with a strategic role for the national economic system and to increase connectivity with the rest of the world," said Sandro Pappalardo, chairman of ITA Airways.
CEO Joerg Eberhart added that the strategy would create jobs and generate positive economic impact for the air transport industry.
