Two cat-themed Solana-based memecoin airdrops briefly covered the cost of “Chapter 2,” the upcoming Solana mobile phone expected to roll out in 2025. The memecoins, MANEKI and MEW, are reportedly connected to the soon-to-launch mobile device and reached a combined value of $459 at some point last Thursday.
Altogether, 5,199 Maneki (MANEKI) tokens launched in an airdrop on April 24, joining the 37,600 Cat in a Dogs World (MEW) tokens that launched on April 1. By reaching a combined value of $459, the airdrops covered the $450 pre-order cost of Chapter 2 per Solana Floor.
MANEKI traded for $0.02326 at the time of writing, reflecting a 9.8% rally in the past 24 hours, according to data from CoinGecko, the crypto foremost crypto aggregation platform. Overall, the newly launched memecoin has gained approximately 9% since it became listed on the platform about 48 hours before the time of writing. MANEKI started from $0.01443 and dropped to a low of $0.01334 before rallying on Thursday to a peak of $0.026919.
Meanwhile, MEW traded for $0.005617 at the time of writing, reflecting a 1.9% dip in the past 24 hours, according to data from CoinGecko. MEW’s current price marks a recovery from its most significant dip since it reached a peak price of $0.009715.
Chapter 2 is Solana’s second mobile, succeeding Saga, another mobile device the project launched in January that reached 60,000 pre-orders within one month. Customers pre-ordering Chapter 2 can connect their Solana wallet addresses to the device. That way, they can receive the airdrops before getting hold of the gadgets in 2025.
The new phone’s features are similar to those of Saga. Like Saga, Chapter 2 will have a built-in crypto wallet, a dapp store, and custom Android software. However, its hardware will be different from that of the pioneer device.
