Investing.com-- US officials were informed that Israel is fully ready to launch an operation into Iran, CBS News reported on Wednesday, which was in part why Washington was evacuating its personnel from the Middle East this week.
Washington expects Iran to potentially retaliate by attacking certain American facilities in Iraq, CBS reported, citing multiple sources.
Reports on Wednesday showed the U.S. State Department evacuating non-emergency and non-military officials from Iraq due to heightened regional tensions. President Donald Trump also confirmed as much on Wednesday.
Iran’s Defence Minister, Aziz Nasirzadeh reportedly said that Tehran could attack U.S. military bases in the region if conflict with the country broke out.
U.S. and Iran nuclear talks are still ongoing, with Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff set to meet with Tehran in the coming days. But there appeared to be little progress towards reaching a nuclear deal, with Trump having earlier signaled that he will not allow Iran to enrich any uranium.
Trump also said that he was losing confidence that an Iran deal will be reached.
Reports in May showed Israel was preparing to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities if talks with the U.S. fell through.
