Gold prices edge lower; heading for weekly losses ahead of U.S.-Russia talks
Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump said in a BBC interview released on Tuesday he is disappointed, but not done with Russian President Vladimir Putin, amid stalling Ukraine ceasefire talks.
Trump spoke to the BBC hours after he announced plans to send more weapons to Ukraine, while warning of severe tariffs against Russia if there was no ceasefire deal reached within 50 days.
“I’m disappointed in (Putin) but I’m not done with him. But I’m disappointed in him,” Trump told the BBC when asked about the Russian president. Trump added that his administration was working on ending hostilities between Kyiv and Moscow.
Trump had earlier publicly criticized Putin over an alleged lack of effort towards reaching a Ukraine deal, while also decrying Russia’s continued aggression against Kyiv. U.S. officials were also seen considering tighter sanctions on Moscow’s oil industry, which has been subject to strict controls since the onset of the war.
The Russia-Ukraine war crossed the three-year mark earlier this year, with hostilities between both sides showing few signs of slowing down. The U.S.’ sending of more NATO-funded weapons to Ukraine, including offensive weapons, also heralds a potential escalation in the conflict.
The BBC interview also discussed an assassination attempt on Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July 2024. Trump said he liked to dwell on the event as little as possible.
