Gold prices steady as traders assess Fed rate outlook after soft US data
Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he will announce the appointment of a new statistician in the coming days, after he fired the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics last week.
Trump had fired BLS Commissioner Erike McEntarfer, accusing her of faking job numbers but providing no evidence of data tampering. The move came just after the BLS released substantially weaker than expected nonfarm payrolls data for July, which showed a sharp cooling in the labor sector.
“We’ll be announcing a new statistician sometime over the next three, four days… we had no confidence, the numbers were ridiculous, what she announced, but that was just one negative number, all the numbers seemed to be great,” Trump told reporters at the Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
“It’s a scam, in my opinion,” Trump said, claiming that the BLS had earlier released economic figures that benefited the Biden administration.
