Ford to cut up to 1,000 jobs at German plant amid weak EV demand - report

Investing.com -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) plans to reduce its workforce by up to 1,000 jobs at its Cologne, Germany plant due to weak demand for electric vehicles, according to German news agency DPA on Tuesday.

The automaker intends to transition from a two-shift operation to a single-shift schedule at the beginning of 2026.

This latest round of cuts expands on a cost-savings plan initiated in 2024, which already aimed to eliminate 2,900 jobs at the Cologne site by the end of 2027 across administration, development, and other departments.

Ford is currently in discussions with labor representatives regarding the additional job reductions. The company plans to implement the cuts through voluntary departures, offering affected employees severance packages or partial retirement options.

The expanded job reduction plan comes as the automaker continues to adjust its operations in response to slower-than-expected electric vehicle adoption in the European market.
