Investing.com -- Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) has unveiled its Xeon 6 processors with Performance-cores (P-cores), designed to meet the demanding needs of next-generation workloads such as artificial intelligence (AI). The processors are aimed at providing high performance and efficiency across a wide spectrum, including data centers, networks, edge computing, and PCs.

The Xeon 6 family is designed to offer industry-leading performance for a broad array of data center and network infrastructure workloads. It also provides superior efficiency, creating an unparalleled opportunity for server consolidation.

Michelle Johnston Holthaus, interim co-CEO of Intel and CEO of Intel Products, stated that the company is intensely focused on bringing cutting-edge products to the market. These products aim to address the customers’ significant challenges and help propel the growth of their businesses. The Xeon 6 family, according to Holthaus, delivers the best CPU for AI, groundbreaking networking features, and drives efficiency while reducing the total cost of ownership.

The new Xeon 6 processors bring significant advancements to both data center and networking portfolios. The Intel Xeon 6700/6500 series processor with P-cores is ideal for modern data centers, striking a perfect balance between performance and energy efficiency. The Xeon 6 is the foundational CPU for AI systems and pairs exceptionally well with a GPU as a host node CPU.

Compared to the 5th Generation AMD (NASDAQ:AMD) EPYC processors, the Xeon 6 offers up to 1.5x better performance in AI inference on chip using one-third fewer cores. The Xeon 6 processors also enable substantial performance-per-watt efficiency, allowing for 5:1 consolidation of a 5-year-old server on average, with potential for up to 10:1 in certain use cases. This results in up to 68% savings in total cost of ownership.

The Xeon 6 for network and edge is a system-on-chip (SoC) designed for high performance and power efficiency. It utilizes Intel’s built-in accelerators for virtualized radio access networks (vRAN), media, AI, and network security. The Xeon 6 SoCs deliver up to 2.4x the RAN capacity and a 70% improvement in performance-per-watt compared to previous generations, thanks to Intel vRAN Boost. The Xeon 6 is also the industry’s first server SoC with a built-in media accelerator, the Intel Media Transcode Accelerator, enabling up to 14x performance per watt gain versus the Intel Xeon 6538N.
