First Brands Group debt targeted by Apollo Global Management - report
Investing.com -- Uber and Avride are intensifying testing of autonomous vehicles in Dallas as they prepare to launch the first public robotaxi service later this year.
The autonomous Hyundai IONIQ 5 vehicles, featuring Avride’s lavender branding, have become common sights in downtown Dallas and nearby neighborhoods as the companies fine-tune their technology for public ride-hailing.
Dallas, one of the largest ride-hailing markets in the U.S., will be the first city to host the joint Uber x Avride robotaxi service. The city’s combination of vibrant downtown areas, major business hubs, and sprawling neighborhoods makes it an ideal testing ground.
"We’re excited to reach this milestone with Avride as we prepare to launch a public robotaxi service in Dallas later this year," said Sarfraz Maredia, Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber. "Soon, Uber riders will have a new way to move around the city, marking another step toward making autonomous transportation part of everyday life."
The robotaxi fleet will use Hyundai Motor’s IONIQ 5 EV platform equipped with Avride’s autonomous driving technology. The IONIQ 5 was selected for its efficiency, performance, and spacious design, making it well-suited for autonomous driving and passenger comfort.
This initiative builds on the existing partnership between Uber and Avride, which has already seen Avride’s autonomous delivery robots complete tens of thousands of Uber Eats orders in Dallas, Austin, and Jersey City.
Dmitry Polishchuk, CEO of Avride, stated: "At Avride, we can’t wait to bring our robotaxi service to Dallas. With our autonomous delivery robots already trusted by customers on Uber Eats, we’re excited to expand that experience to passenger rides on Uber, bringing scalable autonomy to urban mobility."
