Investing.com -- British financial stocks plunged on Friday as concerns about U.S. regional banks triggered a global market sell-off.

Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) led the decline with a 4.6% drop, while Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) fell 2.7% and NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG) also faced significant downward pressure falling about 2%.

The sell-off extended beyond traditional banks to wealth management firms, with St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) dropping 3.5% and Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) 4.2%.

The UK market turmoil followed steep drops on Wall Street, where U.S. regional bank stocks fell sharply after two lenders revealed major loan losses.

The banking sector weakness also spread to Europe, with German lender Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (ETR:DBKGn) also affected by the sell-off, with shares falling 4.2%.
