Blue Origin now accepts cryptocurrency and stablecoin payments for commercial spaceflights aboard its New Shepard vehicle through a partnership with Shift4 Payments, Inc. (FOUR).
The payment integration supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, USDT and USDC, with customers able to connect wallets including Coinbase and MetaMask. The service became available immediately for all upcoming New Shepard commercial bookings.
Blue Origin’s New Shepard has transported more than 75 passengers beyond the Kármán Line, the internationally recognized boundary of space at 100 kilometers altitude. The suborbital vehicle provides passengers views of Earth through large windows during flights.
"Our mission has always been to revolutionize commerce by simplifying the transaction process, and we’re thrilled to now extend that vision beyond Earth," said Taylor Lauber, CEO of Shift4.
The crypto payment option allows Blue Origin to process international transactions with faster settlement in U.S. dollars at any time. Alex Wilson, Head of Crypto at Shift4, noted that cryptocurrency represents a $4 trillion asset class.
Shift4 processes billions of transactions annually for hundreds of thousands of businesses across multiple industries. The company provides integrated payments and commerce technology solutions.
