Investing.com-- Australia will begin releasing a new, complete monthly consumer price index inflation reading from November 2025, the country’s statistics agency said on Wednesday.
The new release will mark a transition for Australian CPI data to a monthly format from a quarterly format, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said in a statement, and will also bring the country’s inflation reporting standards in line with its G20 peers.
The ABS currently releases a limited, monthly CPI indicator, while its headline CPI inflation reading is released on a quarterly basis. Starting from November 26, the agency will release its new complete CPI reading on the last Wednesday of every month following the reference month.
“The transition to a complete, internationally comparable Monthly CPI as Australia’s primary measure of headline inflation will provide better information for monetary and fiscal policy decisions that have a direct impact on all Australians,” Australian statistician David Gruen said in a statement.
The ABS will continue to release its quarterly CPI print at least for now, the ABS said.
The shift to a more complete monthly CPI release comes amid some calls from policymakers, especially in the Reserve Bank of Australia, for faster and more realtime data on inflation.
The RBA had earlier in July delayed a decision to cut interest rates, citing the need to see headline inflation data for the second quarter. The print is due on July 30, with any more signs of cooling inflation likely to elicit more rate cuts by the central bank.
