Investing.com-- Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng (HK:9868) will partner with Magna International (NYSE:MGA) to build cars in Austria, Magna said on Monday, the first time a Chinese automaker has tapped the contract manufacturer’s European operations for localized production.

Magna will assemble two fully electric Xpeng models at its plant in Graz, with serial production scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2025.

Magna said the agreement marks the start of a long-term partnership as Xpeng seeks to expand its presence in Europe.

Magna, which has previously supported Chinese brands in engineering and domestic assembly, described Xpeng as its first Chinese original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner in Europe.
