Priyankar Sarkar Portfolio Manager 2019 2021
Biography Priyankar has been focusing on the Indian equity market for over a decade. His professional career started as a buy-side analyst with Motilal Oswal Asset Management Company (MOAMC) in 2014. He has had the privilege of learning the basic tenets of invest management under the tutelage of Mr. Raamdeo Agarwal (Chairman of MOFSL) himself. During his stint at MOAMC, he covered technology, media, telecom (TMT) and cement sectors. In May 2019, he moved to HSBC Global Asset Management as a consumer analyst. This helped him gain a thorough understanding of the consumption sector in India. He worked closely with the off-shore fund management team (led by Mr. Sanjiv Duggal) based in Hong Kong, which in turn gave him a good understanding of how FIIs invest in India. In September 2021, he began to manage a part of the equity portfolio at Ananta Capital. Here, he covered diverse sectors such as healthcare, music streaming, manufacturing etc. Tracking and understanding of several sectors is essential before one becomes a fund manager. This knowledge enables a fund manager to appreciate different business models and their key drivers. Over the years Priyankar has had the privilege of being mentored by some exemplary stock pickers of India viz. Mr Vinod Sethi (ex-MD, Morgan Stanley) and Mr Ramesh Damani, a veteran investor. His style of investing is largely a result of such insightful mentorship. Priyankar has a Bachelors in Engineering (Hons) from University of Liverpool, UK and an MBA (Finance) from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru.
