Investing.com – The Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday it will examine acquisitions by big tech companies for more clarity on how the companies report information to antitrust agencies.

The FTC issued special orders for information to Google-parent Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) on transactions from the beginning of 2010 to the end of 2019.

“The orders will help the FTC deepen its understanding of large technology firms’ acquisition activity, including how these firms report their transactions to the federal antitrust agencies, and whether large tech companies are making potentially anticompetitive acquisitions of nascent or potential competitors that fall below HSR filing thresholds and therefore do not need to be reported to the antitrust agencies,” the FTC said.

Alphabet rose 0.5%, Amazon gained 1.3%, Apple was up 0.1%, Facebook dropped 3% and Microsoft slipped 1%.
