He commented that Lee was a “generous decent human being” and didn’t deserve to be murdered.
On April 5, Barhydt tweeted about the “devastating news,” sharing the local media SFGATE’s report on Lee’s murder:
I just got devastating news that our friend Bob Lee (@crazybob ) was killed in SF early today.Bob was a dad, the former CTO of Square where he created Cash App & CTO of Mobile Coin. According to the local media post, “A 43-year-old man from Mill Valley died after being stabbed in San Francisco early Tuesday morning.” At the time of the report, the police department neither revealed any information on the suspects nor arrested anyone.
Significantly, the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) reported the murder without revealing the name of the victim. The report read:
San Francisco Police officers from Southern Station responded to the 300 block of Main Street for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located a 43-year-old adult male victim suffering from apparent stab wounds.
In addition, the report stated that though the officers provided medical support to the man and took him to the nearby hospital, “the victim succumbed” to his “life-threatening injuries”.
Subsequently, the popular tweeter Richard posted the incident’s confirmation message by Square CEO Jack Dorsey. Dorsey wrote, on the decentralized social network Nostr, referring to Lee’s murder, that “it’s real”. He added that “Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App” and that his death is “heartbreaking”.
