Dune Twitter Account Compromised, Hackers Promote Fake Airdrop

  • Dune Analytics’ official X account was compromised.
  • The account was used to promote fake Dune airdrop.
  • The hack lasted over 90 minutes while the fake airdrop post was live for 15 minutes.

The official X (formerly known as Twitter) account of Dune Analytics, a blockchain data platform, was officially compromised for over 90 minutes until the team got back access to the social media account.

According to an X post from Dune, the hackers used their newly-found access to its X account to promote fake airdrops to its followers and tried to dupe investors off their hard earned money. However, the platform confirmed that they have regained access to the X account.

The X post from Dune confirmed that the fake airdrop tweet was live for about 15 minutes on the platform’s social media account. However, the platform confirmed that “there is no Dune airdrop or token currently live or planned,” while adding that it now has complete control over the account.

Dune also released a security alert prior to gaining access to its X account, which asked users to “avoid engaging with any links or content shared through Dune’s official Twitter account” until the issue was resolved.

“A general reminder, Dune does not conduct any token sales or airdrop activities. Please be vigilant and cautious of any communications claiming otherwise, as these are not authorized by Dune.”

A while later, X users shared images of Dune, stating that they had regained access to their X account. Usually, when hackers get hold of an X account, they dupe users by asking them to connect their wallets using a phishing link for some fake, lucrative airdrop. Similar incidents have occurred in the past on X.
