Vitalik Buterin, the Founder of Ethereum Blockchain, recently shared an updated 2024 roadmap via a series of X posts, sharing insights on the development of the blockchain. Asserting that the updated version has “relatively few changes” from the previous year’s roadmap, Buterin cited the six core priorities, including the merge, the surge, the scourge, the verge, the purge, and the splurge.
Beginning with the merge, Buterin highlighted the significance of the single slot finality (SSF), positing that its role in the post-merge PoS improvement is “solidifying.” He added, “It’s becoming clear that SSF is the easiest path to resolving a lot of the Ethereum PoS design’s current weaknesses.” In addition, Buterin shed light on the significant progress on the Surge, pointing out the long-term improvements of cross-rollup standards and interop.
While sharing insights on the “redesigned” Scourge, Buterin stated it had been modified to be concentrated on “fighting economic centralization in PoS in general” in two key theatres: MOV and general stake pooling issues. The Verge has also experienced substantial changes, including the L2 network’s progress and the potential implementation of the Verkle tree. His tweet read,
Significant progress in the Verge; Verkle trees are coming closer to being ready for inclusion… “Increase L1 gas limit” was removed to emphasize that the limit can be raised *at any time*; no need to wait for full SNARKs esp for small increases.
Recently, analyst CryptosRUs predicted a remarkable growth of Ethereum, asserting that the ecosystem would witness an explosive surge in the following weeks. The analyst foresees the significant impact of the upcoming Dencun upgrade, which is expected to enhance the blockchain.
