Tron’s Justin Sun Reportedly Lost Diplomatic Status Last Year

  • Justin Sun’s ambassadorship to the WTO was reportedly revoked in 2022.
  • The change of government in Grenada led to Sun losing his diplomatic status.
  • The Tron founder continues to identify himself as Grenada’s ambassador to the WTO.

Tron founder Justin Sun, who refers to himself as His Excellency (H.E) Justin Sun, reportedly lost the diplomatic status that allows him to use the grand title. Sun’s diplomatic status as Grenada’s permanent ambassador to the World Trade Organization was reportedly revoked in June 2022.

Justin Sun was appointed as Grenada’s permanent ambassador to the World Trade Organization in December 2021 by the New National Party, which was the country’s ruling party at the time. Sun was quick to tout the newly acquired diplomatic status, including the adoption of the grand title.

The appointment came with certain expectations, including the promotion of trade, investment, and development opportunities for the country. Grenada’s government also expected the Tron founder to support the development of human resources, infrastructure, and information and communication technology for the country.

However, following the general elections of 2022, the New National Party was ousted from office by Grenada’s National Democratic Congress. One of the first orders of business of the new ruling party was to make significant changes to its diplomatic staff. According to a report by Grenada Broadcasting Network, the new government recalled all ambassadors following the election in June last year.

Justin Sun was among those who were stripped of their diplomatic status. Sun’s ambassadorship to the WTO was subsequently revoked. However, the Tron founder continues to identify himself as Grenada’s ambassador to the WTO. His official Twitter profile still states that he is a diplomat of the Caribbean country. Interestingly, the official Twitter account of Grenada’s permanent mission to the WTO still identifies Sun as the ambassador.
