Gold bars to be exempt from tariffs, White House clarifies
Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday called for an end to a long-running corruption trial against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, referring to the case as a “witch hunt.”
In a social media post, Trump praised Netanyahu, calling him a “great war time prime minister,” and that the recent destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities and subsequent ceasefire would not have been possible without Netanyahu.
Trump called the long-running corruption case against Netanyahu “politically motivated,” and that the trial should be “CANCELLED, IMMEDIATELY,” or that the Israeli prime minister be pardoned.
Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 on charges of fraud, bribery, and a breach of trust– all of which the Israeli prime minister has denied. But he has been in and out of court since 2020, with another hearing scheduled for next week.
Netanyahu’s legal troubles had bitterly divided Israel’s political landscape, and had sparked widespread, prolonged protests in the country. But he still marked a decisive victory in the 2022 elections, while his trial was also postponed after the October 2023 attack by Hamas on Israel.
