ReElement Technologies stock soars after securing $1.4B government deal
Investing.com-- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday urged Asia-Pacific leaders to strengthen multilateralism and openness, in his first public remarks since meeting U.S. President Donald Trump a day earlier.
Speaking at the opening session of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in the South Korean city of Gyeongju, Xi called for countries to “work together” amid global uncertainty and to uphold the World Trade Organization-led trading system.
"We must adhere to the correct direction of WTO reform, uphold fundamental principles such as most-favored-nation treatment and non-discrimination, promote the modernization of international trade and economic rules," the readout stated.
He said China would continue to open its economy and “join hands” to ensure stable supply chains rather than “breaking chains.”
Xi’s comments came a day after his high-profile meeting with Trump in Busan, where the two leaders discussed trade and agreed on major issues to finalize the details shortly.
The talks, described by Trump as “very successful,” included a preliminary agreement on lowering some tariffs and resuming key agricultural imports, but failed to provide definite steps for doing so.
Without directly mentioning the U.S., Xi pledged China would “open wider to the world” and pursue reforms aligned with high-standard global trade rules.
He also highlighted cooperation on digital trade, green industries, and inclusive development across the region.
