LAGOS, July 19 (Reuters) - Nigeria's central bank barred
banks from buying bills for their own accounts at an open market
auction on Thursday, a move aimed at forcing them to lend rather
than invest in bonds, traders said on Friday.
The central bank which had not issued market stabilisation
bills for about a week before Thursday's auction, said in a
message to banks that bids must be backed by customer demand.
