Fed’s Powell opens door to potential rate cuts at Jackson Hole
Investing.com -- Former President Donald Trump said he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin "wants to get it done" and "is going to make a deal" at their upcoming meeting in Alaska on Friday.
In a Fox News Radio interview, Trump suggested his threat of sanctions against Russia likely influenced Putin’s decision to seek the meeting. "Economic incentives, sanctions are very powerful," Trump stated, though he declined to provide specifics when asked about potential economic incentives, saying he "would rather not say."
Trump outlined his plans following the Putin meeting, indicating he will call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for a second meeting if the talks go well. He mentioned having "three possible locations for a follow up meeting" but cautioned that "if it’s a bad meeting, will not call anyone."
The former president tempered expectations about immediate results, noting, "Don’t know that we’re going to get an immediate ceasefire." He added that if the meeting proves productive, he plans to contact not only Zelenskiy but also European leaders afterward.
Regarding media access, Trump confirmed he "will have a press conference either way" but was uncertain whether it would be a joint appearance with Putin.
