GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian shares fell to six-week lows on Thursday while the
dollar jumped to two-year highs as the U.S. Federal Reserve
poured cold water on market expectations of a lengthy easing

WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil prices fell more than $1 on Thursday, declining for the
first time in six days, after the U.S. Federal Reserve
dampened hopes for a string of rate cuts and Sino-U.S. trade

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand steadied against the dollar in late
trade on Wednesday, as investors awaited a likely cut in
interest rates by the U.S. Federal Reserve, shifting the
spotlight away from domestic economic troubles. MARKETS
Kenya's central bank pumped dollars into the foreign
exchange market on Wednesday and sought to soak up excess
liquidity after the shilling KES= sank to its lowest level
against the dollar in nearly five years, traders
said. INFLATION
Kenya's year-on-year inflation KECPI=ECI rose to 6.27% in
July from 5.70% the previous month, touching its highest
level in three months, the statistics office said on
Wednesday. BANKS
Ethiopia's parliament passed a bill on Wednesday to open up
the country's financial sector to an estimated five million
of its citizens who have taken other nationalities,
including allowing them to buy shares in local banks and
start lending businesses. REPUBLIC OF CONGO HEALTH
The second patient to be diagnosed with Ebola in eastern
Congo's main city of Goma has died after he sought treatment
too late and was already bleeding, the head of the Congolese
response effort said on Wednesday. POLITICS
Mozambique's President Filipe Nyusi will sign a peace
agreement on Thursday to put a formal end to military
hostilities with the main opposition party, Renamo, almost
three decades after the end of a civil war. MINING
Vedanta Resources VDAN.NS said on Wednesday it had
notified its Zambian joint venture partner ZCCM-IH that it
had launched arbitration proceedings related to an attempt
by the Zambian government to liquidate Vedanta's
majority-owned Konkola Copper Mines (KCM). ECONOMY
Zimbabwe's central bank on Wednesday sought to raise 30
million Zimbabwe dollars ($3.27 million) at its first public
auction of treasury bills since 2012. POLITICS
Negotiators from Sudan's ruling military council and main
opposition coalition have made progress on the sticking
points in discussions on the transition from military rule
and are set to hold direct talks within 48 hours, an
