GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian shares started the week on a softer note on Monday
after posting their first weekly decline since early June,
while the dollar was on the defensive ahead of key economic

Oil prices slipped on Monday after China posted its slowest
quarterly economic growth in at least 27 years, reinforcing
concerns about demand in the world's largest crude oil

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand retreated from a five-month high on
Friday as risk appetite subdued, but was on track for weekly
gains after expectations the U.S. Federal Reserve would cut
interest rates had stoked demand for the
currency. MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= was steady on Friday and was
expected to weaken due to excess liquidity in the money
market and increased dollar demand from oil importers,

The Ugandan shilling UGX= was flat on Friday amid some
inflows from offshore investors who participated in this
week's Treasury auction. BANKING
Tanzania's central bank has removed the chief executive of
the state-run TIB Corporate Bank with immediate effect,
citing poor performance of the financial
institution. ECONOMY
Zambia's president has appointed central bank deputy
governor Bwalya Ng'andu as finance minister, taking over
from Margaret Mwanakatwe who has been fired, a statement
from the president's office said. FUEL
Zimbabwe's energy regulator has raised petrol and diesel
prices by up to 16%, the fourth increase this year, after
the finance minister said fuel was considerably cheaper than
in neighbouring countries. EBOLA
The first case of Ebola in the eastern Congo city of Goma
was discovered on Sunday, officials said, raising concerns
the virus could spread quicker in a densely populated area
