TSX drops after Canadian index edges higher in prior session
Investing.com-- Google’s YouTube TV said on Thursday that Disney’s television networks will go dark on its platform after the two failed to reach consensus over a new licensing agreement.
Channels such as ABC and ESPN will no longer be available on the platform, effective midnight, October 30, Youtube TV said in a social media post. Users will also be unable to access recordings from the networks.
The dispute was largely over pricing, with Youtube TV stating that it had refused to “agree to terms that disadvantage our members while benefiting Disney’s TV products.”
“When we renew our contracts with network partners, we advocate for fair pricing… Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to reach a fair deal,” the company said.
Youtube TV said it will offer members a $20 credit if Disney’s networks were unavailable for an “extended period,” and that negotiations with the company were continuing.
Youtube TV is one of the largest subscription-TV distributors in the United States, and features programming from over 100 major broadcasters. The service has garnered about 10 million subscribers since its launch in 2017.
