Nvidia's (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO, Jensen Huang, was featured in CBS’s “60 Minutes” television program, where he discussed the company’s pivotal role in AI technology.
NVDA’s market value surged to $2 trillion within eight months, propelled by the demand for its AI-enabling graphic processing units (GPUs).
At Nvidia’s annual conference last month, Huang introduced "Blackwell," described as the fastest GPU ever created.
During the event, Jensen shared his vision of an AI future, a moment that 60 Minutes said was reminiscent of the unveiling of the first iPhone, one of the most significant milestones in tech history.
Huang talked about the tremendous potential of AI technology, saying it could revolutionize industries from drug discovery to environmental science.
Nvidia revolutionized AI technology with its innovative GPUs, which can process multiple calculations simultaneously, unlike traditional chips that work sequentially. This type of GPUs acts as the core of Nvidia's AI computers, allowing them to process vast amounts of data swiftly.
"It does quadrillions of calculations a second, it's just insane numbers," said Huang, who also reflected on the broader implications of AI. "The workers work for companies. And so companies, when they become more productive, earnings increase. I've never seen one company that had earnings increase and not hire more people."
While acknowledging that some jobs might become obsolete due to automation and AI, Huang emphasized the potential for companies to become more productive and profitable, leading to new hiring opportunities.
“Well, lemme offer it this way. I believe that you still want human in the loop, because we have good judgment, because there are circumstances that the machines are not-- just not going to understand,” Huang told Bill Whitaker, the correspondent of the 60 Minutes TV program.
Jensen Huang envisions a future where AI leads to progress and prosperity, emphasizing that machines will improve our lives, rather than become our masters.
“We can only hope he's right,” the show’s narrator said.
