Fed Governor Adriana Kugler to resign
Investing.com -- Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META). is restructuring its artificial intelligence division and forming a new group called Meta Superintelligence Labs, according to an internal memo sent to employees on Monday, and quoted by Bloomberg.
Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg announced that the new lab will be led by Alexandr Wang, former CEO of data-labeling startup Scale AI, who will serve as chief AI officer. Nat Friedman, former CEO of Github, will partner with Wang to lead the group and oversee Meta’s work on AI products and applied research.
In the memo, Zuckerberg expressed his commitment to developing AI "superintelligence," which refers to systems capable of performing tasks as well as or better than humans.
"As the pace of AI progress accelerates, developing superintelligence is coming into sight," Zuckerberg wrote. "I believe this will be the beginning of a new era for humanity, and I am fully committed to doing what it takes for Meta to lead the way."
Zuckerberg also described Wang as the "most impressive founder of his generation."
The social media giant also announced 11 new hires in the AI space, recruiting researchers from major AI companies including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL). The new team members include former DeepMind researchers Jack Rae and Pei Sun, several OpenAI researchers such as Jiahui Yu, Shuchao Bi, Shengjia Zhao and Hongyu Ren, as well as Anthropic’s Joel Pobar, who previously worked at Meta for over a decade.
