Moody’s downgrades Senegal to Caa1 amid rising debt concerns
Investing.com -- Turkish Airlines could switch its recently announced order for Boeing 737 MAX jets to rival Airbus if negotiations with engine supplier CFM fail to reach an agreement, according to the airline’s Chair Ahmet Bolat.
"If CFM comes to feasible economical terms then we are going to sign with Boeing," Bolat said in Stockholm on Wednesday. He noted that while negotiations had made some progress, disagreements on costs still remained.
Bolat emphasized that a switch to Airbus was possible if CFM maintains its current position. "If CFM continues its stance we’ll change to Airbus. With Airbus I have choices," he said, referring to the European planemaker’s multiple engine supplier options.
The Turkish Airlines chair also indicated that the company has narrowed the gap in negotiations with CFM but still faces some distance to go regarding cost issues.
In addition to the narrowbody aircraft discussions, Bolat mentioned that Turkish Airlines is monitoring Boeing 777X testing and studying potential future routes for the widebody jet. He stated the airline is ready to order the Boeing 777X "when the time is right" but is not in a rush to do so.
