Investing.com -- Giorgio Armani, the renowned Italian fashion designer who founded and built a global luxury empire, has died at age 91, his company announced Thursday.
"With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani," the fashion house said in a statement.
Armani had been in poor health recently and missed his group’s shows at Milan’s Men’s Fashion Week in June - the first time in his career he had been absent from one of his catwalk events.
Armani was widely regarded as a symbol of modern Italian style and elegance.
A funeral chamber will be open Saturday and Sunday in Milan, followed by a private funeral ceremony at a date not yet specified, according to the company.
