PERTH, AUSTRALIA - Alien Metals Limited (AIM:UFO) reported Wednesday that its joint venture partner, West Coast Silver Limited, has discovered shallow high-grade silver mineralization in initial drilling at the Elizabeth Hill Silver Project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The first two diamond drill holes yielded significant results, with hole 25WCDD001 intersecting 5 meters at 313g/t silver from 20 meters depth and 5 meters at 2,822g/t silver from 26 meters, including 2 meters at 6,951g/t silver. The second hole intersected 12 meters at 153g/t silver starting from the surface, including 1 meter at 973g/t silver.
Silver mineralization begins at surface in both holes, according to portable XRF readings. Half-core samples have been sent to laboratories for comprehensive analysis, with results expected in 6-8 weeks.
Alien Metals retains a 30% free-carried interest in the project through to a decision to mine, while West Coast Silver operates the joint venture.
The Elizabeth Hill project has a production history, having yielded 1.2 million ounces of silver from just 16,830 tonnes of ore at a head grade of 2,194g/t before operations ceased in 2000 due to low silver prices and joint venture disputes.
Core recovery exceeded 95%, and systematic logging is underway to improve understanding of structural and lithological controls on the mineralization, according to the company’s press release statement.
