European Smaller Companies Trust appoints two new directors

LONDON - The European Smaller Companies Trust PLC (LSE:ESCT) announced Wednesday the appointment of Stuart Paterson and Kate Cornish-Bowden as non-executive directors, effective October 16, 2025, following the completion of its combination with European Assets Trust PLC.

Both directors will serve on the company’s Audit Committee, Management Engagement Committee, and Nomination and Remuneration Committee, according to a press release statement.

Paterson, who joined European Assets Trust’s board in July 2019 and became its Chairman in May 2024, brings over 25 years of equity investing experience in European private companies. He co-founded Scottish Equity Partners, a technology growth equity investor managing more than £1 billion of institutional capital. Paterson is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and previously worked in corporate finance at EY.

Cornish-Bowden was appointed to European Assets Trust’s board and became Senior Independent Director in January 2024. She currently serves as Chair of International Biotechnology Trust plc and holds non-executive director positions at Finsbury Growth & Income Trust plc and CC Japan Income & Growth Trust plc. Her executive career included roles as a fund manager at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, where she was managing director and head of the global equity team.

Following the completion of the combination scheme, Paterson is expected to hold 51,413 ordinary shares in the company, while Cornish-Bowden will hold 38,559 ordinary shares.
