  • Apple plans to integrate Google’s AI model, Gemini engine, to enhance the iPhone with AI features.
  • The tech giant is also talking with OpenAI about integrating ChatGPT.
  • A deal has yet to be finalized; reports suggest there will be no official announcement until June 2024.

A recent Bloomberg report revealed that Apple is planning to integrate Google’s Gemini Artificial Intelligence (AI) engine into the iPhone. According to the report, Apple wants to enhance the iPhone with new AI features with the assistance of Gemini.

Google’s collaboration with Apple, poised to become one of the biggest AI deals, might be a game changer for the search giant. Apple is already in partnership with Google, whose search engine it uses for the Safari browser. Thus, the current deal is expected to further bolster the alliance, placing Google in a commanding position.

Apple has been preparing to set its foot at the forefront of the AI sector, rallying ahead with its competitors like OpenAI and Microsoft. In addition, as per the report, Apple has already discussed with OpenAI to leverage its GPT models.

Last month, Apple CEO Tim Cook hinted at the company’s potential entry into the AI space. Narrating the potential benefits of AI integration, he stated, “We believe that will unlock transformative opportunities for users when it comes to productivity, problem-solving and more.”

Google introduced the Gemini engine as a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT in December 2023. Gemini, comprising Gemini Ultra, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Nano, has reportedly overpowered ChatGPT in some respects.

Reportedly, the final decision on the collaboration is still pending. The companies have not decided or finalized the implementation of the Gemini engine on Apple. While the conditions and the agreement remain undecided, there is speculation that the deal will not be finalized until June. Currently, Apple, Google, and OpenAI remain reluctant to comment on the matter.
