CME Group (CME) announced plans to launch options on Solana and XRP futures on October 13, 2025, pending regulatory review.
The new products will allow clients to trade options on SOL, Micro SOL, XRP, and Micro XRP futures, with expiries available every business day, monthly and quarterly.
"The launch of these options contracts builds on the significant growth and increasing liquidity we have seen across our suite of Solana and XRP futures," said Giovanni Vicioso, CME Group Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products.
Since their launches, CME Group’s Solana and XRP futures have seen substantial trading activity. More than 540,000 Solana futures contracts worth $22.3 billion in notional value have traded since the March 17 launch. The contracts achieved record monthly average daily volume of 9,000 contracts ($437.4 million notional) and average daily open interest of 12,500 contracts ($895 million notional) in August 2025.
XRP futures have recorded more than 370,000 contracts traded ($16.2 billion notional) since launching May 19. August 2025 marked record monthly performance with average daily volume of 6,600 contracts ($385 million notional) and average daily open interest of 9,300 contracts ($942 million notional).
Roman Makarov, Head of Cumberland Options Trading at DRW, said the launch demonstrates continued market demand for exposure beyond bitcoin and ether products. Joshua Lim, Global Co-Head of Markets at FalconX, noted the growing need for institutional hedging tools on Solana and XRP.
