SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand dipped on Tuesday, a day before the
finance minister is expected to reveal wider government
deficits and higher debt in a budget speech.
MARKETS
A federal judge in Lagos has set Jan. 30 and 31 for the
hearing of a $2 billion tax dispute between South Africa's
MTN Group MTNJ.J and the Nigerian government.
DANGOTE
Africa's largest oil refinery will deliver its fuels to
Nigerian consumers via roads and sea ports, and will
effectively replace all of Nigeria's fuel imports once fully
operational, a company executive said on Tuesday.
MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= strengthened against the dollar
on Tuesday, helped by inflows from horticulture exports and
non-governmental organizations amid weak end month demand
from merchandise importers and the energy sector.
RATE CAP
The finance committee of Kenya's parliament has recommended
that the house should repeal a cap on commercial lending
rates in line with the president's demands, the Daily Nation
reported on Wednesday.
CURRENCY
Zimbabwe will introduce some Zimbabwe dollar notes and coins
in the next two weeks, the latest step towards fully
restoring the domestic currency, central bank governor John
Mangudya said on Tuesday.
SUDAN OIL
South Sudan plans to offer 14 oil blocks to exploration
companies in a licensing round by the first quarter 2020,
its oil minister said on Tuesday, switching from its
previous method of direct negotiations with explorers.
ELECTION
Mozambique's main opposition party Renamo on Tuesday
appealed the result of the Oct. 15 general election, calling
on the country's top court to annul incumbent President
Filipe Nyusi's victory.
