Fed governors may dissent against Powell amid Trump pressure - WSJ’s Timiraos
Investing.com-- Columbia University said on Wednesday it will pay more than US$200 million to the U.S. government to resolve federal investigations initiated under President Donald Trump’s administration and recover most of its suspended federal funding.
The university reached a settlement requiring a US$200 million payment over three years and an additional US$21 million to settle U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity (SO:FTCE11B) Commission claims.
In March, the Trump administration froze approximately US$400 million in grants and contracts, accusing Columbia of insufficiently addressing antisemitic harassment of Jewish and Israeli students amid pro-Palestinian protests.
Under the agreement, most of the withheld funding will be reinstated, and Columbia’s “autonomy and authority over faculty hiring, admissions, and academic decision-making” will be preserved, the university said in a statement.
Columbia has committed to sweeping reforms, including adopting a new definition of antisemitism, overhauling its student disciplinary process, and increasing oversight of related academic programmes.
