Investing.com -- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that President Vladimir Putin is willing to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, though several issues need resolution before such a meeting could take place.
Lavrov noted that Putin has "repeatedly said he is ready to meet" with the Ukrainian leader, but emphasized that "all issues will need to be worked out properly" ahead of any potential talks.
One significant obstacle is Putin’s questioning of Zelenskiy’s legitimacy due to postponed elections in Ukraine during the war. According to Lavrov, this legitimacy issue "will have to be resolved" before Moscow would be willing to sign any document with Kyiv.
The Russian foreign minister also referenced a previous decree by Zelenskiy that prohibited talks with Putin, though he did not elaborate on whether this decree remains in effect or how it might impact potential negotiations.
