Lisa Cook sues Trump over firing attempt, emergency hearing set
Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he is working with Republican leaders in Congress on a “comprehensive crime bill.”
“Speaker Mike Johnson, and (Senate) Leader John Thune, are working with me, and other Republicans, on a Comprehensive Crime Bill,” Trump said in a Truth.Social post, adding that “it’s what our Country need.”
Trump had earlier in August deployed the National Guard in Washington D.C., citing heightened levels of crime and lawlessness in the city. He had also threatened to deploy troops in Democrat-controlled cities, including Baltimore and Chicago.
Trump also authorized National Guard troops to carry weapons while patrolling Washington.
Earlier in August, Trump said he would ask Congress to approve a crime bill granting him greater authority over Washington D.C.’s police department, while also unlocking more funding for beautification projects.
