Investing.com -- U.S. President Donald Trump announced Monday on his Truth Social platform that he plans to lead a movement to eliminate mail-in ballots and voting machines from American elections.
Trump said he would sign an executive order aimed at "bringing honesty" to the 2026 midterm elections, claiming that mail-in voting leads to voter fraud and that voting machines are "inaccurate," expensive, and controversial.
The president proposed replacing current voting systems with watermark paper, which he described as more accurate, sophisticated, and cost-effective, stating it would provide clear election results on election night.
In his post, Trump claimed the United States is "the only country in the world that uses mail-in voting" and that other nations abandoned the practice due to fraud concerns.
Trump also asserted that states function as "agents" for the federal government in vote counting and must follow presidential directives "for the good of our country."
The president accused Democrats of opposing such changes because they "cheat at levels never seen before" and claimed they are "virtually unelectable" without mail-in voting, which he called a "scam."
Trump concluded his statement by connecting election integrity and border security to national identity, writing: "Without fair and honest elections, and strong and powerful borders, you don’t have even a semblance of a country."
