Gold prices remain near record highs; Fed cut bets prompt weekly gains
Investing.com -- Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Utah.
President Trump announced his death on Truth social media.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead," Trump announced. "No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
Following his death, Trump is ordering American Flags throughout the United States lowered to half-mast until Sunday at 6 P.M.
Kirk was 31 years old.
Video circulating on social media showed Kirk being struck in the neck while speaking under a tent in the university courtyard. Additional footage captured students fleeing the area after gunshots were heard.
After initial reports surfaced that a suspect was in custody, authorities said that no suspects were currently in custody.
Kirk, who serves as executive director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), was at the university as part of The American Comeback Tour, an event hosted by the school’s TPUSA chapter.
He leaves behind a wife, Erika Kirk, and two young children.
