Investing.com -- President Donald Trump said Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could return to the Oval Office when he is ready for peace after the chances of a widely expected U.S.-Ukraine minerals deal was scuppered following a clash between the two presidents on Friday.
"It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations," Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
"I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace," Trump added.
Zelensky met with US President Trump in Washington on Friday to sign a deal that would provide the US access to its deposits of rare earth minerals. But following a heated meeting at the Oval Office between the two presidents, the prospect of an agreement was scuppered.
Zelensky took issue with Vice President JD Vance’s suggestion that “diplomacy” was needed to end the war.
Trump had criticized Zelenskyy for not being grateful enough for the U.S. support in its war with Russia, and accused the Ukrainian President of gambling with World War Three.
“You’re gambling with the lives of millions of people. You’re gambling with World War Three, and what you’re doing is very disrespectful to this country,” Trump told Zelenskyy.
“It’s going to be a very hard thing to do business like this,” Trump added. “It’s going to be a tough deal to make because the attitudes have to change.”
