NAIROBI, Dec 31 (Reuters) - The following company announcements, scheduled economic
indicators, debt and currency market moves and political events may affect African markets on

GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian shares edged up on Thursday and were set to end a
tumultuous 2020 at record highs, while growing investor hopes
for a global economic recovery caused the dollar to fall
further against most major currencies. MKTS/GLOB
WORLD OIL PRICES
Global crude oil markets have lost about a fifth of their value
in 2020 as strict coronavirus lockdowns paralysed much of the
global economy, but prices have rebounded strongly from their
lows as governments rolled out stimulus. O/R

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand firmed on Wednesday in a broad rally by
emerging market currencies driven by continued hopes for deeper
fiscal stimulus in the United States and lingering optimism
about coronavirus vaccines.
KENYA MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= weakened on Wednesday due to
increased dollar demand from importers in various sectors,
traders said. UGANDA POLITICS
Uganda opposition presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi,
popularly known as Bobi Wine, and his campaign team were
arrested on Wednesday and he said on Twitter that authorities
returned him to his Kampala home in a military helicopter.


IVORY COAST POLITICS
Ivory Coast opposition leader Pascal Affi N'Guessan was
released on Wednesday after nearly two months in custody for
creating a breakaway government after a disputed presidential
election marred by violence.
NIGERIA STOCKS
Nigerian stocks climbed 1.12% to a near three-year high on
Wednesday as the biggest listed firm, Dangote Cement
DANGCEM.LG , commenced a share buyback and funds piled into
equities to fill year-end allocations. AFRICAN REPUBLIC POLITICS
A group of influential opposition politicians in Central
African Republic has called for an annullment of last Sunday's
election, saying that a third of voters were unable to cast
