NAIROBI, Jan 7 (Reuters) - The following company announcements, scheduled economic
indicators, debt and currency market moves and political events may affect African markets on
Thursday.

GLOBAL MARKETS
Bonds nursed losses and stock markets rose on Thursday in
anticipation of a big borrowing and big spending Democrat
administration driving growth, following runoff elections that
gave the party control of both houses of U.S. Congress.

WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil prices were steady on Thursday after supporters of President
Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol, with investors focusing on
the likelihood of tighter supplies after Saudi Arabia unilaterally

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
The South African rand weakened for the third day in a row on
Wednesday as a stronger U.S. dollar and speculation over further
lockdown restrictions weighed on sentiment. KENYA MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= was slightly weaker against the dollar
on Wednesday amid importer demand coming back to the market and
improving liquidity of the shilling, traders said. DEBT
China has granted some debt relief to Democratic Republic of Congo
to help it overcome economic fallout from the coronavirus
pandemic, the Congolese foreign ministry said on Wednesday.
CONFLICT
About 2.2 million people have been displaced within Ethiopia's
Tigray region since fighting erupted there in November with about
half fleeing after their homes were burned down, a local

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Wednesday signed an
agreement to provide Sudan a bridge loan to clear the $1.2 billion
the African country owes in World Bank arrears, allowing Sudan to
