SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand edged weaker in subdued trade on Tuesday
with market participants awaiting a local lending rates
decision and one by the U.S. central bank next week before
making any big calls. TURKEY/SHIPPING
Ten Turkish sailors were taken hostage by armed pirates who
attacked a Turkish-flagged cargo ship off the coast of
Nigeria, the vessel's owner said on Tuesday, adding that
another eight sailors were left safely aboard. KENYA MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= weakened against the dollar on
Tuesday amid excess liquidity in the local money markets,

The Ugandan shilling UGX= was firmer on Tuesday on the
back of ebbing appetite for hard currency from large
importers like manufacturing firms and fuel retailers,

Zimbabwe's public sector workers on Tuesday night rejected
the government's latest pay offer as insufficient in the
face of soaring consumer prices, raising the likelihood of

Zambia should step up its implementation of austerity
measures to rein in soaring debt and stabilise the economy,
newly appointed finance minister Bwalya Ng'andu said on

A Congolese army officer arrived in the village of Kafwaya

Chinese copper and cobalt mine next door. As night fell

Top cocoa growers Ivory Coast and Ghana agreed on Tuesday to
lift the suspension of cocoa sales for the 2020/2021 season,

Sudan's main protest group is opposed to granting military
rulers "absolute" immunity against possible prosecution for
violence against protesters, a group spokesman said on
