GLOBAL MARKETS
U.S. stock futures erased losses and Asian stocks held flat
on Monday, trying to shake off worries that rising
coronavirus cases in the United States could scupper a quick
economic rebound from the massive downturn triggered by the

WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil prices nudged higher on Monday on tighter supplies from
major producers, but a record rise in global coronavirus
cases raised concerns a recovery in fuel demand could stall,

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand firmed against the U.S. dollar early on
Friday, recovering from the previous session's tumble when
global risk sentiment had been dented by fears of a second
wave of coronavirus infections.

The Kenyan shilling KES= was firm on Friday supported by
dollar inflows from horticulture exports, traders

NIGERIA CENTRAL BANK
Nigeria's central bank has collected 216 billion naira ($598
mln) from banks with excess cash holdings as part of
measures to support the naira currency, leading to a spike
in money market rates, bankers said on Friday.
AGRICULTURE
An American non-profit organisation has launched a $40
million joint venture with one of Zambia's top farm
suppliers to boost crop yields and food security as farmers
struggle to access finance amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the

Ivory Coast's octogenarian former President Henri Konan
Bedie will run for office again in presidential elections in
October, he said in a statement on Saturday.
REPUBLIC OF CONGO CORRUPTION
The Democratic Republic of Congo's high court on Saturday
found the president's chief of staff guilty of embezzling
$48 million in public funds and sentenced him to 20 years in
jail, the lead judge said.
ELECTION
West African regional bloc ECOWAS on Saturday called on Mali
to re-run some of its contested local elections and convene
a government of national unity after anti-government
protests swept the capital Bamako.
