GLOBAL MARKETS
U.S. stock futures and several Asian shares fell in choppy
trade on Wednesday, as worries about the coronavirus
pandemic eclipsed hopes broad policy support would combat
the economic fallout of the outbreak. MKTS/GLOB
WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil prices steadied on Wednesday after slipping to new
four-year lows, sapped by fears for fuel demand and the
global economy amid travel and social lockdowns triggered by

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa's rand strengthened against the dollar on
Tuesday, a day after the country's currency, stocks and
government bonds plunged on panic over the coronavirus
pandemic.
AFRICA CORONAVIRUS
Alarmed consumers thronged markets across Africa on Tuesday,
many in masks and gloves, to stock up as the coronavirus
spread on the world's poorest continent.
NIGERIA INFLATION
Annual inflation in Nigeria rose for the sixth straight
month to a near two-year high, the statistics office said on
Tuesday, as the impact of the country's closed borders
continued to be felt. KENYA MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling KES= inched down on Tuesday against
the dollar as worries about the potential impact of the
COVID-19 pandemic continued to weigh on the market, traders
said.
KENYA TRADE
The Trump administration on Tuesday told Congress it plans
to negotiate a comprehensive trade agreement with the East
African country of Kenya, pledging to engage in ongoing
consultations with U.S. lawmakers. UGANDA CURRENCY
Uganda's central bank said on Tuesday it had sold dollars
after a sharp depreciation of the shilling UGX= amid
ongoing fears about the potential economic damage from the
outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the East African
