Asian shares turned lower on Thursday after the U.S. Federal

Reserve cut interest rates as expected but signalled a

Oil prices edged higher in early Asian trade on Thursday

after days of turbulence, with markets soothed by Saudi

Arabia's pledge to restore full production by end-September

at facilities knocked out in drone and missile attacks last

South Africa's rand steadied on Wednesday as fears of an oil

price spike eased and investors waited for a U.S. Federal

Reserve interest-rate decision. OIL

Nigeria's state oil company on Wednesday raised October

official selling price (OSP) for Bonny Light BON-E and Qua

Iboe crude oil QUA-E to dated Brent plus 172 cents and 167

cents per barrel, respectively. MARKETS

The Kenyan shilling KES= weakened against the dollar on

Wednesday due to excess local currency liquidity in the

money markets and dollar demand from merchandise importers,

traders said. POLICY

Africa has embraced sound economic policies and even the

political class has started to appreciate the importance of

such policies, Kenya's central bank governor said on

Wednesday. HEALTH

Tanzania has formally told the World Health Organization

(WHO) that it has no cases of Ebola after a woman died there

earlier this month from an unknown illness following

Ebola-like symptoms, the organisation said on

Lawyers representing a prominent Tanzanian journalist

demanded on Wednesday that authorities who have charged him

with financial crimes conclude their investigations and

The Ugandan shilling UGX= was unchanged on Wednesday, and

was expected to gain ground due to dollar from exporters of

commodities like coffee, tea and gold. RUSSIA

Uganda said on Wednesday it had signed an Inter-Governmental

Agreement (IGA) with Russia to help the East African country

build capacity to exploit nuclear technology for energy,

Democratic Republic of Congo's army said on Wednesday it had

killed Sylvestre Mudacumura, the commander of a Rwandan Hutu

militia who is wanted by the International Criminal

Ghana and Ivory Coast, the world's top cocoa producers, are

looking at introducing a cocoa production ceiling to support

global prices and discourage overproduction, the countries'

Striking Zimbabwean doctors said on Wednesday they were

being threatened with death and suspected state security

agents were pressuring them after police blocked their

second protest march over the disappearance of their union
