Investing.com - Apple delivered one of its most significant product updates in years Tuesday with the launch of the iPhone 17 family and the all-new iPhone Air, alongside new Apple Watch models and AirPods Pro 3.
The iPhone 17 introduces a sharper focus on imaging with a 48MP Fusion Main camera, a new 48MP Ultra Wide lens for expansive and macro photography, and an upgraded Center Stage front camera. The 6.3 inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion is brighter and smoother while the new Ceramic Shield 2 cover triples scratch resistance and reduces glare. Powered by the A19 chip, iPhone 17 combines higher performance with better efficiency.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max push performance further with the A19 Pro chip inside a strong aluminum unibody that integrates a vapor chamber for better thermal management. Three 48MP Fusion cameras provide the equivalent of eight lenses including Apple’s longest optical quality zoom at 8x. The models also introduce advanced video features such as ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock. Ceramic Shield 2 now protects both front and back for added durability.
The spotlight also shines on the new iPhone Air, the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever made. With a titanium design and redesigned internal architecture, iPhone Air blends strength, elegance, and efficiency. It features a 6.5 inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion up to 120Hz and runs on Apple’s most advanced chip combination to date: the A19 Pro, N1, and C1X. The result is the most power efficient iPhone with impressive all day battery life. Its 48MP Fusion Main camera offers the flexibility of four lenses while the 18MP Center Stage front camera sets a new standard for selfies.
Apple also introduced Apple Watch Series 11 and Watch SE 3 with improved health features, 5G connectivity, longer battery life, and new capabilities in watchOS 26. AirPods Pro 3 gained stronger noise cancellation, health tracking with heart rate measurement, and live translation to make conversations across languages easier.
With iPhone Air redefining thin design and efficiency and iPhone 17 raising the bar on performance and imaging, Apple is positioning its flagship devices at the center of an ecosystem that extends from wrist to ear.
Commenting on the developments, Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management said, "... this was the most aggressive change to iPhone form factors since the iPhone 6 in 2014. The Pro models gained a new industrial design (sneaky good), and Apple introduced the new Air. Together, that means roughly 70% of iPhones sold will feature a new form factor."
