Chinese automaker, BYD (SZ:002594) announced Wednesday that they have secured a conditional testing license for level 3 autonomous driving on high-speed roads.
BYD announced in a statement on its official Weibo (NASDAQ:WB) account that it was granted the first such license of its kind in China in July.
In a separate development, BMW (ETR:BMWG) Group confirmed its acquisition of a test license for level 3 autonomous driving on high-speed roads in Shanghai earlier in December. Concurrently, Mercedes Benz (ETR:MBGn) unveiled plans to conduct level 3 tests on specified highways in Beijing.
IM Motors, affiliated with the state-owned Chinese automaker SAIC Motor and specializing in electric vehicles, expressed intentions to seek approval from China's industry ministry for the introduction of level 3 vehicles.
