Gold prices dip as hawkish Fed minutes weigh ahead of Jackson Hole
Investing.com-- DeepSeek- the Chinese artificial intelligence start-up that shot up in popularity with its R1 model, has begun offering competitive salaries as part of an expansion push, Chinese media reported.
A report from China Fund News showed on Wednesday that the firm was recruiting AI researchers while offering monthly salaries between 80,000 yuan and 110,000 yuan ($9,000 to $11,000)- indicating an annual salary of as much as 1.5 million yuan. The higher salaries were reserved for researchers in artificial general intelligence (AGI), the report said.
In comparison, the average salary for an AI researcher in China is about 450,000 yuan, according to data from Glassdoor.
The Global Times reported that DeepSeek had listed more than 50 job offers on Chinese online recruitment platform BOSS Zhipin. The company- which currently employs about 150 people, is seeking to fill 52 new positions, based in Beijing and Hangzhou.
The recruitment drive comes after DeepSeek shot up in popularity with its R1 AI model, which appeared to be able to match rival offerings, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, while using a fraction of the latter’s budget.
DeepSeek’s app overtook ChatGPT to become the most downloaded free app on Apple’s app store.
DeepSeek R1 showed that Chinese firms were still in the AI race despite recent U.S. export controls blocking off the country from advanced AI chips.
